Jacklore Latest batch of 6 AEB L Stainless Classic Bushcraft knives
Here's my latest batch of AEB-L Stainless Classic Bushcraft knives.
I started these on the 7th May and finished them yesterday on the 30th May.
A lot of work!
I shall be building more Classics, Whittlers, Hunter Gatherers and Camp knives starting next month but they do take an age to do.

Working on some AEB L Bushcraft knives Fitting scales Jacklore

Really enjoying working with the AEB-L steel. Grinds beautifully, not so prone to rust when compared to carbon steels, it's also tougher and has slightly better edge retention compared to most carbon steels. What's not to like. The only negative is the heat treatment is just a bit more involved. I austenetize the blades at 1060 Celcius for 15 minutes then plate quench using lots of pressure (4 ...

AEB-L Heat treat came out very well. Jacklore

This is the first time I have used AEB-L which was developed by Uddeholm in Sweden. The steel stands out because of its high hardness, excellent corrosion resistance, ease of sharpening, and exceptional toughness. AEB-L remains popular among knife makers because of its consistency, it is easy to work with, and it attains a full mirror polish finish. I am excited and very pleased at how well the...

How to make a Bushcraft Knife blank by Jacklore

This video shows how I use "Stock removal" to create a knife blankl, in this case I'm working on a batch of Camp knives. I use this very same method for all my knife builds whether they be Classics, Whittlers etc. The other method to make knife blanks if to forge them using a furnace, hammer and anvil/ presses but unfortunately I am not able to do that at my location, it's just too noisy for my...

This is what I call a Simple but elegant knife, a "Plain Jane" :) Sometimes simple is best. A Plain Jane is a "Slightly" lower build value knife as it lacks Liners and a belt dangler. Liners in this modern age of Stabilised woods and High strength epoxies are no longer necessary, they are just an Aesthetic, but in the past when glue's were not so good they acted as a Gasket between the wood and...

    The only issue I have with AEB-L is its tendency to warp, but this can be mitigated with a stress relief cycle, even plate cooling and a carbide hammer.

    • @Jackloreknives
      @Jackloreknives 2 дня назад

      Your not using enough clamping force. When you plate quench you need to use a lot of pressure, I use G clamps to clamp the plates "firmly" then there is no warping. I would never use a carbide hammer, it will leave tiny indents and hidden stresses steel. Strain relieving is a good thing to do but will not always solve warping. Clamping pressure will!

    Hello, I'm trying to make wooden slingshots with an aluminum core, but after 2 hours of sanding, it's still not flat. The more I sand, the more the edges get rounded off. I've tried different grits (80, 120, etc.), taped the sandpaper to a piece of glass, and used the figure-eight motion, but it's not working. The pencil marks aren't helping either. When I remove the marks in the center, the edges are completely rounded. I had the same problem years ago when I tried to flatten chisels perfectly.

    I like the loveless bolts,,, ironically I bought some corby bolts a while back but didn’t use them cause I had already drilled for 3/16 brass pins ,,, so the holes were to big but I plan to use them , you did a good job !!! It was a great tip for the dimples in the scales to better adhere the epoxy,,, I’ll use it !!! Thank you for your advice and suggestions!!!

    Hi Sandy, lovely to meet you and Toby yesterday on the final stretch of my first wild camp :) I just watched your video on how you build your knives, wow! What a process they go through! I love the care and attention that you put in to making them, absolutely facinating process to watch, very beautiful knives indeed. Hope you both made it home OK yesterday with the traffic on the M5. You mention the number of processes Sandy. For me at least, it's the number of processes, the detail in the processes, the care you take at each stage and the way you strive for perfection that makes your knifes so special. The icing on the cake is of course being able to watch each process in great detail as a result of you sharing your videos. Top man. 👍🏼

    Beautiful work tools Sandy. It's a shame that some of your customers are a bit unscrupulous and only buy to sell for profit, and those who buy never to use but to build up a collection, there are genuine people that want one for what they were built for, a tool, but can't obtain one because collectors have bought them all. Anyway rant over. You're a genuine and kind man Sandy, shame not everyone is genuine. All the best to yourself and your family mate.
